JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The government is nearing one month of being shut down. That means the future is uncertain for furloughed employees and government-funded programs like Early Head Start.

For one grandmother, it’s a program offered at One Place in Jacksonville that made an impact on her grandson’s childhood.

“The Early Head Start program has really impacted my grandchildren as far as socialization skills and developmental skills. It’s a wonderful program,” said Reina Rodriguez.

One Place is a nonprofit that serves children and families throughout Onslow County.

The organization also offers the federally funded Early Head Start program, which provides child care and education to low-income families.
