AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) - With SNAP benefits at risk as the federal shutdown continues, one Aiken non-profit is already taking action.
"I've kind of been in tears over this for like, the last couple weeks just trying to figure out how we're gonna do it with my, my family, me and my kids," said Shannon Negley, who lives in Aiken.
At the non-profit Area Churches Together Serving, or ACTS, the rush is already on.
They’re stocking up and stretching hours ahead of a possible SNAP cutoff on November 1st.
Volunteers check each client’s file – how many kids, what they eat and any dietary needs before packing.
ACTS is adding food, pre-packing bags, and expanding hours. Appointments are already booked through next week.
