Khaing Phyoe has had a cream pie thrown in his face but didn’t mind at all.
The Wayne High School junior said younger students he was helping supervise through a job placement at Science Central chose him to take the hit after winning a point-based competition essentially designed to reward good behavior.
Retelling the story while sitting in an open space at Weisser Park Youth Center, Phyoe was flattered.
“That just amazed me and shocked me that these kids know me and care about me and chose me,” Phyoe said.
His summer job experience at Science Central was through TeenWorks, a nonprofit program that started in Indianapolis and has a history dating back 40 years. It has expanded to help youth excel in their communities, in college and careers with operations in Anderson, Muncie and Fort
