The Melbourne Storm has granted Ryan Papenhuyzen a release from club, effective immediately, with one year still remaining on his contract.
Papenhuyzen played 113 matches for the Storm and delivered a match-winning performance to claim the Clive Churchill medal in Melbourne’s 26-20 NRL grand final win over the Penrith Panthers in 2020.
The 27-year-old starred for the club from 2019-2025, claiming an impressive 635 career points, including 77 tries and 160 goals, ranking him sixth on Storm’s all-time leading points scorers.
His last game for Melbourne was in this year's grand final, losing 26-22 to the Brisbane Broncos.
Melbourne released a statement on Thursday saying they are disappointedto see Papenhuyzen leave but respect his decision to take some time away from the game.
