SPOKANE, Wash. — Just two days away from a closure deadline, health officials' WIC offices, run by the Spokane Regional Health District, will in fact remain open.

The Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) provides food benefits for pregnant mothers, new parents and children up to five years old.

Heath officials say they were preparing to close their doors on Oct. 30 due to limited staffing budgets. But, this afternoon, they have announced their six WIC offices across Spokane will remain open for now.

Additional funding will extend layoff notices until Nov. 30 and WIC offices managed by the Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) will remain open through Nov. 26.

Separate from the SRHD WIC offices, there are four other WIC offices in Spokane, run by the West Central Commun
