TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The city of Tucson and the Tucson Police Department teamed up with more than a dozen entities on Tuesday for a public outreach deployment aimed at connecting homeless individuals with services for the Safe City Initiative.

The three-hour deployment at the Tucson Fire Department’s Support Services Facility resulted in 12 individuals being connected with services and 26 warrants being served.

TPD officers patrolled areas throughout Ward 5, looking for individuals experiencing homelessness and engaging in public drug use, encouraging them to accept help rather than pursuing traditional enforcement.

“This is completely a different sort of mentality than a regular police department enforcement deployment,” said Lieutenant Brian Corcoran of the Tucson Police Departme
