Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that is a byproduct of gas-powered vehicles and generators, as well as certain household appliances.

Being colorless and odorless is exactly what makes it so dangerous. Unlike other hazardous gases, like chemical fumes or smoke, carbon monoxide cannot be detected with our human senses of smell and sight. The gas interferes with your blood's ability to carry oxygen and can lead to death by poisoning after a long enough exposure.
