When Emeritus Professor Malcolm Whyte turned 100 in 2020, it was in the last vestiages of the pandemic. Social distancing was still a thing and he had to celebrate with family and friends via a Zoom meeting.

Five years later, Professor Whyte this week celebrated his 105 th birthday surrounded by family and friends, in real life, at the Mirinjani nursing home in Weston.

"You wouldn't think he was 105," was the general consensus from his fellow residents.

It was only last December that Professor Whyte moved up the hill, from Mirinjani's independent living units to the nursing home. He is still hale and hearty - his impish sense of humour firmly in place.

"How do I feel? Like a frisky 35-year-old," he said.
