EAST PALESTINE An independent pharmacy has opened its doors to the community in East Palestine.

The new pharmacy can be found at 49 East Taggart Street, and it has been named Elite Pharmacy.

The grand opening ceremony took place on Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the new location.

According to a news release outlining the opening ceremony, the pharmacy is opening at a time when Rite Aid stores around the country have shuttered, including within the Mahoning Valley region.

"We've been working on this with the town leadership for about the last year," said Daniel Jones, Owner and Pharmacist of Elite Pharmacy.

Jones says that the closure of these stores left residents of East Palestine 10 miles out of the way of a different pharmacy to go to.
