BELTON, Texas — Students and staff at Belton ISD raised over $5,000 for the United Way of Central Texas this October through the district's Spirit Chain fundraiser.
Over two weeks, students across the district bought links for the spirit chain for 25 cents each. As more links were purchased, the chains got longer, and the total donation grew.
In all, Belton ISD raised a total of $5,396.17 for the United Way of Central Texas. Elementary campuses reportedly brought in $1,430.56, middle school campuses raised $469.61 and the high schools raised $120.
In addition to the student donations, staff members combined $340 in one-time gifts with $3,036 in payroll contributions to bring the final total over $5,000.
The funds will reportedly help the United Way support initiatives in health, financ
