HIBBING, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A long-awaited project in Hibbing is finally breaking ground.
City officials and community leaders gathered Wednesday on East 23rd Street, the future home of Hibbing’s new Public Safety Center.
The facility will bring the city’s police and fire departments under one roof, a move leaders say will improve communication and cut down on emergency response times.
“We currently work in separate buildings several blocks away, being able to walk down the hallway and speak to one of our law enforcement officers. The chief of police or any of our colleagues, we’ll just make our emergency operations for the city so much more efficient.“
Construction is set to begin immediately, with hopes that the new center will be fully operational by next fall.
