SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Former Sheriff Chuck Wright, who is facing charges for multiple alleged federal crimes, is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday for a plea hearing.
Wright was arraigned on Monday on charges of wire fraud conspiracy, obtaining controlled substances by misrepresentation, and conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.
He was granted a $25,000 unsecured bond and ordered to participate in a substance abuse program.
The plea hearing is set for 10 a.m.
According to the charging documents from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Wright “abused his position as elected Sheriff... to siphon money from Spartanburg County.”
Wright is accused of stealing funds from the agency’s Benevolence Fund and using the money to buy pain pill
