GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Many local pantries are preparing for an increase in the number of people who may need food assistance.

A federal court in Boston will hear a lawsuit from 25 states accusing the Trump administration of refusing to use contingency funds to continue SNAP food benefits during the government shutdown.

Wisconsin joined the lawsuit on Tuesday.

With the government shutdown now in its 30th day, more than 700,000 Wisconsinites are preparing to live without federal food aid starting this Saturday. That includes 260,000 children.

Even if a judge rules the federal government must use reserve funds to pay for SNAP benefits during the shutdown, as it has previously, delays in receiving those benefits are very likely.
