With the government shutdown hitting the one-month mark Nov. 1, American's across the country face losing food benefits next month.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will pause funding for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, known as SNAP, starting Nov. 1.

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, nearly 71,000 Cumberland County residents relied on SNAP, according to NCDHHS' latest count in April.

Several nonprofits and religious organizations in Cumberland County provide food or meals through donations or partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank .
