AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A judge has agreed to hear a lawsuit filed against Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams by a former deputy.

Honorable Wayne D. McLocklin, Senior Judge of the Superior Courts of Georgia, is overseeing the case after all judges in the Superior Court of the Augusta Judicial Circuit recused themselves .

In September, former Burke County deputy Tanner Baughman filed a lawsuit against Williams, working to clear his name after he claims the sheriff did not follow the law.

Baughman filed the lawsuit on Sept. 4, claiming the lawsuit “arises from Baughman’s refusal to participate in unlawful, unethical favoritism shown to Sheriff Alfonzo Williams’s friend and political ally, Robert ‘Andy’ McCafferty.”
