Just weeks after residents in Richmond, B.C., learned of a court ruling recognizing Aboriginal title over parts of their city, another land claim has been filed, this time in Quebec.

The Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation launched a lawsuit in Quebec Superior Court on October 29, 2025, asserting Aboriginal title over about 10,000 square kilometres of land in western Quebec. The claim covers territory stretching north of the Ottawa River and includes areas used by the Algonquin people for centuries.
