Manitoba’s busiest hospital has been operating at more than double its capacity for over a week, according to the Manitoba Nurses Union, which says the strain inside Health Sciences Centre’s emergency department has reached a breaking point.
The union says conditions inside the adult emergency department at HSC have deteriorated to the point where nurses are treating stroke patients in hallways and adult patients have had to be redirected to the Children’s Emergency Department — a step that underscores how severe the overcrowding has become.
