The search for a missing man who entered the River Irwell near Manchester city centre has begun its fifth day.

Officers responded to concerns for a man's welfare on Irwell Street, in Salford , at 3.13am on Sunday morning (October 26).

It is believed the man, aged in his 20s, entered the river in the area close to the Irwell Street bridge, near Spinningfields .

Underwater search teams attended the scene on Sunday afternoon and efforts to find the man have continued since then.

In a statement issued this morning (Thursday), Greater Manchester Police confirmed its investigation remains ongoing.
