CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -The federal government shutdown is approaching a dangerous deadline with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits set to run out Saturday.
SNAP is the federal food assistance program that provides monthly payments to low and lower income families, veterans, disabled and elderly.
SNAP is funded with federal dollars but some states are looking at what can be done to keep the program going until a budget, or a temporary budget, can be agreed to in Washington.
Checking with lawmakers in Columbus there does not appear to be any serious discussions to enact the needed legislation to temporarily fund benefits.
