GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man pleaded in court on Thursday after being charged with criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping in an incident last year involving a Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) student.

Marquis Martinez, who was 25 at the time of the incident, pleaded no contest to two counts of aggravated CSAM, two counts of using computers to commit a crime, kidnapping, and 2nd-degree CSC assault.

One charge of aggravated CSAM and one count of using computers to commit a crime were dropped.

Martinez could spend up to life in prison for the charges. He'll be sentenced on Jan. 28, 2026.

The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) said around 7 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2024, officers were dispatched to the area of Ball Avenue NE and Bradford Street NE.
