TOLEDO, Ohio — Local officials and community partners will hold a news conference Friday to address the impending halt in SNAP benefits due to the ongoing federal government shutdown .
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Toledo Seagate Food Bank, 526 High St. Officials say the federal pause will leave thousands of Lucas County residents without food assistance for November.
Speakers will include Lucas County Commissioners Pete Gerken and Lisa Sobecki, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, and leaders from the Toledo Seagate Food Bank, Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, UToledo Health and United Way of Greater Toledo.
Organizers said the conference aims to clarify how the shutdown impacts food assistance and outline the community’s response. Updates will include food distribution
