WSFA 12 news director Desmond Wingard died Thursday after a battle with cancer. He was 46.
Wingard, who dedicated his life to his career and community, was remembered as a mentor and a person who always gave back.
WSFA 12 announced the death in a news story detailing the career of Wingard.
“He first walked through the doors at 12 East Delano Avenue in 1999 as a fresh-faced, but very determined young 19-year-old junior studying at Troy University,” the story stated. “He never left.”
The story explains that Wingard always knew he wanted to be in the news business as a child. He was able to work alongside his own mentor, legendary news anchor Bob Howell. In fact, Wingard’s final Facebook post in May was honoring Howell after his death.
