PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Food banks are becoming a lifeline for thousands of Arizona families.
“Food is such a need, and I think we’re learning the infrastructure is very fragile,” said Anne Costa, the Director of the Living Well Program at HonorHealth’s Desert Mission Food Bank.
She said the food pantry has been helping families for nearly 100 years. This week, lines have been wrapping around the building.
“We have been seeing historic numbers, been breaking records every day this week,” said Costa.
Costa explained that they used to serve an average of 250 to 300 households per day.
On Monday, they helped 363 families. The number rose to 407 on Tuesday and to 408 on Wednesday, totaling almost 1,000 people in one day.
