Two men from Brampton are facing charges for allegedly fabricating a police report of a carjacking in a “complex fraud scheme,” police said in a news release Thursday.

Ontario Provincial Police said they had received a report of a carjacking in Caledon on Sept. 18 around 10 p.m.

In the report, the complainant said their car was involved in a collision, then approached by two people — one with a handgun — who stole the car.

Investigators say the report was fabricated. In the news release, police say they have charged a 38-year-old man and a 40-year-old man with public mischief and fraud over $5,000.
