Food banks across California are preparing for a surge in need as federal benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program run out this weekend.
State Attorney General Rob Bonta on Thursday was at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to talk about the state’s legal challenge that aims to force the Trump administration to use contingency funds to keep SNAP benefits flowing for millions in the state and nation.
Gov. Gavin Newsom earlier this week deployed the National Guard to food banks needing help with distribution. Bay Area food banks declined the offer.
