EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — You'll soon be able to enjoy a nice, cold beer at United Skates of America.

Representatives for the business appeared before the East Providence City Council on Oct. 21 to request a limited B/V liquor license.

"I think based on what the customers have requested, this is something that, after many years, we've decided to add to the fun," said Tim Chapman, an attorney representing United Skates.

Council members asked how alcohol would be served at the rink. United Skates General Manager Sue Chase said they have no plans to set up a full bar, but beer and wine would be served in a secure area by TIPS-certified adults.

The request faced resistance from a few residents, citing safety issues and recent incidents.
