AUSTIN, Texas — After recent beneficial rainfall, the state has seen significant relief from prolonged drought conditions. The latest data reveals a substantial improvement, with a 12% statewide drop in areas classified as being in a drought compared to last week.

The drought monitor: Before and after recent rain

The reduction in drought is most evident when comparing the U.S. Drought Monitor maps from last week to this week. Last week, many central regions were facing "extreme" (dark red) or "severe" (orange) drought classifications.

This week's map shows a clear pullback in the most intense drought categories. While areas of "moderate" (orange) and "dry" (yellow) conditions persist, the shift out of extreme drought represents a positive trend for water resources and agriculture.
