CARMEL, Ind. — On Thursday, Oct. 30 the magic is back, and so is the man behind it: David Ranalli

The magician is trading hospital gowns for a suit as he steps back on stage tonight after a scare that nearly stopped the show.

Shuffling, surprisingly, is David Ranalli’s specialty.

A recent health scare almost dropped the curtain on his more than 20-year magical career.

“It felt like not enough oxygen was just FLOWING through my heart, and I felt very fatigued, and I felt like just numbness around my body and stuff like that," Ranalli said. "And it was pretty bad.”

All because of a congenital heart defect. At 37, Ranalli needed a new heart valve. But traditional open heart surgery — which involves dividing the breastbone — means months of downtime.
