MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The artificial intelligence job cuts have officially arrived.

Amazon announced on Wednesday the company is laying off 14,000 corporate workers, including middle management.

"This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet, and it's enabling companies to innovate much faster than ever before," wrote company leaders in a statement.

This comes days after the New York Times reported Amazon will replace more than half a million jobs with robots over the next decade.

"I do not want to get replaced by a robot!" laughed Darious Smith, a warehouse worker who lives in Raleigh. "That's probably my biggest concern."

Smith works at another company's warehouse, but appreciates the flexibility and pay of jobs in his industry.
