Blue Mounds woman accused of killing mother committed to medical facility

MADISON, Wis. — The woman accused of killing her mother in the Town of Blue Mounds and crashing her vehicle while driving naked earlier this year was committed to a medical facility on Thursday.

Sierra Schoonover, 31, entered a not guilty by reason of insanity plea/guilty insanity plea on Oct. 14 for her first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon.

Heather Schoonover was discovered deceased in the 10800 block of Smokey Mountain Trail. A neighbor reported seeing Sierra naked in her driveway arguing with her mother shortly before the incident. Sierra remained unclothed when the crash occurred.

The court accepted Schoonover's plea and adjudged her guilty, resulting in her commitment to a medical facility for the rest of her life, with the possibility of petitioning fo
