SMITH COUNTY, Texas — All 44 dogs that were seized in a suspected puppy mill investigation at a Smith County home have been rescued.
These dogs were found Sept. 19 in the 19200 block of FM 345 near Troup as EMS responded to a medical call. Smith County deputies later found the dogs had not received food, water or care for at least 12 hours. Several were malnourished and suffering from skin conditions, overgrown nails and possible gastrointestinal issues.
The Smith County Animal Shelter removed the dogs from the home and they have been in their custody since then. In an update shared on Thursday, the Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation recently rescued all 44 dogs, including 22 Italian Greyhounds, 19 Whippets and three Standard Poodles.
