Widespread flooding shut down numerous highways and local roads across New Jersey on Oct. 30 as a pair of storm systems brought heavy winds and rain.

As of midafternoon, flooding had closed lanes or entire stretches of several major routes, including the Garden State’s coastal and inland highways. Among the hardest hit areas were:

NJ 36 in both directions at Union Avenue in Union Beach and near Linden Avenue in Highlands, where all lanes were closed.

NJ 31 in both directions north of Olden Avenue in Ewing Township, with all lanes shut down.

NJ 21 in Newark at Clay Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue, closed in both directions.

I-80 westbound in Paterson and Parsippany-Troy Hills, where multiple lanes were closed.
