ALLEN PARK -- Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is coming off the bye week ranked 120th in the NFL with only 17 receptions.
Williams has two or fewer catches in five out of seven games this season despite landing an $80 million extension on the eve of the season opener . And through the lack of production, the Lions have remained impressed with Williams’ maturity and willingness to act as the decoy or to lay some blocks in the running game, without showing frustration.
But they also know the ball needs to be in the speedy receiver’s hands much more.
Scottie Montgomery, the team’s receivers coach and assistant head coach, said if Williams weren’t a little but “ornery tight now, it would just signal complacency .” Montgomery added that Williams hasn’t shown that in practice
