HAMILTON COUNTY, Oh. (WXIX) - Nearly 100,000 people living in Hamilton County are at risk of losing SNAP benefits if the government shutdown continues, prompting a Tri-State grocery to come up with a way to help feed their neighbors heading into the holiday season.
Rivertown IGA, a family-owned grocery store on State Route 52 in New Richmond, plans to spend thousands of dollars from its own funds to ensure customers can continue buying food.
The store will load credit onto loyalty cards for affected customers, allowing them to shop without revealing their financial situation.
“The government shutdown is no fault of anyone’s. We don’t want children or families to go hungry,” store representatives said.
Staff will review each customer’s monthly spending history and load that amount onto
