ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Community Affairs is warning that issues with federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development may “disrupt” Housing Assistance Payments to landlords in counties served by the state’s Housing Choice Voucher program.
In an alert issued this week, the agency said it expects to make only “partial, prorated payments” to landlords for November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
“DCA will immediately issue a payment for the remaining balance of the November payment when HUD releases full funding,” the agency said in its notice. “Under federal law, landlords are not permitted to charge tenants for DCA’s portion of the rent or issue eviction notices related to delayed HAP payments.”
