Speed cameras in Waterloo Region will be turned off by Nov. 14 after Premier Doug Ford sped an omnibus bill through the legislature.

Bill 56, Building a More Competitive Economy Act, was introduced on Oct. 20 and passed 69-41 on Thursday, with the Tories in support and the opposition New Democrats, Liberals and Greens voting against it.

Cambridge regional Coun. Doug Craig said the move to shut down automated speed enforcement (ASE) programs is a gross overstep by the provincial government.

“I think there’s disappointment in terms of the fact that local government has been undermined by the provincial government,” said Craig.
