TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — Millions of Floridians who rely on federal food assistance could be left hanging as soon as this weekend as the government shutdown continues now on day 30.
Americans may have been saved for the month of October, but next month's supplemental nutrition assistance funding may be at risk.
Due to the looming deadline, Florida House and Senate Democrats came together this week, sending a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis, demanding he declare a state of emergency to tap into the state's rainy day fund and help feed Floridians. "A kid can't put that blame on a plate and eat a nutritious meal.
