KEY WEST, Fla. (WFLA) -- A construction company unearthed an "old mortar," shutting down a road in the Florida Keys on Wednesday.
The Key West Police Department said the construction crew made the discovery near Thai Island.
Everyone within 1,000 feet of the incident was evacuated.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office bomb squad was called in to remove the mortar.
The roadway has since reopened.
