BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Louisiana is preparing to fund food assistance benefits starting this Saturday, with emergency aid being directed to specific individuals.
Starting Nov. 1, households including those with elderly, disabled, or child members will be prioritized to receive benefits, as Gov. Jeff Landry explained on Wednesday. The Louisiana Department of Health said households with only "able-bodied" adults won't get state-funded benefits.
“Thank you to Governor Landry for your bold leadership, compassion, and work with the state Legislature to take care of our most vulnerable populations,” said LDH Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein.
If there are any unused federal SNAP benefits from previous months, those funds on EBT cards can be used like usual.
