WASHINGTON — A Democratic state senator from Maryland has been indicted on eight criminal counts relating to an alleged extortion scheme to threaten a possible critic over an affair, an unsealed federal indictment from Oct. 23 revealed.
The indictment involves allegations that Dalya Attar had conspired to track down, make recordings and obtain video of a political operative having an affair. Attar had been serving in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing parts of Baltimore City, when the alleged crimes took place.
The 35-year-old politician was indicted alongside her brother Joseph Attar and Baltimore City police officer Kalman Finkelstein, both of whom court documents say worked as operatives for her 2022 Maryland House campaign.
