Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) just set a new political record that she never “ intended to break. ”
Grijalva won the special election to represent Arizona’s 7th Congressional District on Sept. 23. Her wait to be sworn in reached 36 days on Wednesday, breaking a tie with Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Cal.) for the longest delay since 2001, according to data from Bloomberg reporter Greg Giroux .
“It has been 36 days since our election, and we have surpassed waiting the longest of anyone in recent history,” Grijalva said Thursday in a video posted to her X account . “I want to be sworn in, working for Arizona and being at the table when these important discussions are being made.”
