( 25News Now ) - All Schucks stores will be hosting food drives to support local food banks and food pantries as demand grows because of paused SNAP benefits during the federal government shutdown.
Schnucks said the most requested items are shelf-stable and non-perishable items such as:
Light tuna or salmon (canned or packaged)
Canned chicken or meat
Soup, chili or stews with meat and beans
Canned fruit
Diced tomatoes/tomato paste
Canned spaghetti sauce
Instant brown rice
Whole wheat pasta
Canned vegetables
Deodorant/toothbrushes/toothpaste
Schnucks said they would also continue to work with their long-time community partners such as the United Way, Urban League and The Salvation Army to help get food to those in need.
Schnucks also offers Schnucks Rewards, allowing shoppers
