FORT WORTH, Texas — A woman has been arrested and charged with arson, accused of lighting a house fire in the historic southside of Fort Worth that injured two firefighters after the structure collapsed, according to the fire department.
Shawndreika Thomas, 34, was arrested on Wednesday. Fire investigators said surveillance video from neighbors' homes caught Thomas in and around the house that day.
"Every indication that we’ve got is she used a device, which is a cigarette lighter, to set common combustibles on fire," said Captain Wayne May, with the Fort Worth Fire Department Arson Unit.
On Sept. 3, firefighters responded to a one-story home at 209 Williams St., Fort Worth Fire said. Stephany Velez, who was driving nearby, said she saw the fire from the road.
