The longtime manager of the John A. Patten Community Center in Lookout Valley is calling it a career after 45 years.

Jimmy Long helped transition the old elementary school into one of the top recreation centers in the south.

He has introduced programs like pickleball, quilting, arts and crafts, and summer and sports camps for kids.

Local elected officials paid tribute Thursday to Jimmy's long career, and his nonstop efforts to improve the quality of life in his own community.

District 11 Hamilton County Commissioner Joe Graham says Long is not afraid of hard work.

"He's a good ball player too," Graham said. "He's really good with children, and bringing people together. That's what this rec center is all about."
