Fall colors are at their peak at the Portland Japanese Garden, which means that dozens of maple trees, lacking all humility against a backdrop of towering evergreens, are having their multicolored moment.

Dry weather will hold until late Friday, when rain is expected . Over time, the rain will have its way with the trees and their leaves, reminding us of the fleeing nature of beauty.
