PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Democratic Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) is demanding answers from the Department of Homeland Security amid misconduct reports against federal agents.

On Thursday, Bynum was among lawmakers who signed a letter sent to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, asking about the alleged “growing record of unlawful actions" by agents.

The letter comes amid “alarming reports and publicly available videos” showing DHS officers detaining people and using “excessive and unlawful force,” the lawmakers said in a press release.

The letter pointed to incidents in Portland, where federal agents have fired impact munitions into peaceful crowds, used chemical spray against nonviolent protesters and detained United States citizens without cause, according to the lawmakers.
