LOUISVILLE, Ky. — St. Joseph Children's Home has officially broken ground on its new play and wellness complex.
The new development will span more than 163,000-square-feet and includes a pavilion, playground, splash pad and a walking trail.
The $4 million renovation is part of St. Joe's ongoing efforts to modernize the campus on Frankfort Avenue while improving the lives of the kids who live there.
"A lot of our kids will have challenges going off campus and feeling safe at a public playground or a public area. This gives them the opportunity to still get to play, get to have fun, and heal while they get to have that fun. It's important for them," Suzy Hillebrand, chief advancement officer for St. Joe's, told WHAS11.
A group of kids from St. Joe's also had input into the design process
