A woman has died after she was struck by lightning on the Sunshine Coast yesterday.

Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics were called to a location on Mary River Road, Cooroy at 5.14pm on October 30.

It's understood the woman was struck by lightning at a sporting complex.

"One patient, a female in her 20s, was treated in a life-threatening condition and transported to Nambour Hospital with critical care paramedics on board," a QAS spokesperson said.

The woman has since died, with police confirming they were preparing a report for the coroner following the "sudden death" of a 21-year-old woman in Cooroy yesterday.
