SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Midwest is known for its four seasons.
In the fall, temperatures drop, daylight decreases and there’s a noticeable change in the landscape.
From bright greens to yellows, oranges and reds, the intensity of the fall color changes from year to year.
For us, peak fall colors usually happen in mid-October.
But as you’ve stepped outside over the past few days, you might have noticed peak fall colors are finally here in Michiana nearly two weeks behind schedule.
Weather is the driver behind this change. Both the timing and vibrancy are controlled by rainfall, temperatures and sunshine.
The sweet spot for the brightest colors are warm days, cool nights and steady moisture this year, though a drought combined with unusually warm nights has muted some hues.
