BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas — San Angelo man Zachary Pfluger was convicted and sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 29, by a Brazos County court to 20 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Based on evidence presented to the court, the jury determined Pfluger committed the crime because of bias and prejudice, thereby making it a hate crime and increasing the penalty to a first-degree felony.
The Brazos County District Attorney's Office stated Pfluger will have to serve half of his sentence before he can become eligible for parole. His two pending aggravated assaults against a public servant, or officer, are still pending with a trial date to be determined.
